Stainless Steel Exhaust Replacement

Recently the joint between the middle and end sections of exhaust started to blow on my Xedos (98R V6SE) and after getting a garage to look at it and quote for a replacement (both bits - the joint was so bad), I decided to look for alternatives. I found a good one. The company is called LongLife exhausts and they custom build stainless steel exhausts which are guaranteed for life (of the car), but that's not the best bit (although that IS pretty good), you decide what noise level/petrol consumption/power increase you want (within reason obviously), as well as the end pipe.

Personally I decided on an end pipe with the same outer shape but with temperature protection inside (to keep the S/S shiny) and a noise that although still quiet whilst cruising on the motorway adds a nice low rumble when accelerating, not too much, it's not for scaring small children as I go down the street, just enough so that you know it's a V6 (it seems a shame to waste it). That's what I asked for and that's exactly what I got. I was pretty impressed. Happily the power seems to have gone up as well, I haven't had it measured but it feels more sharp. Longlife claim about a 10% increase (in general). I'd thoroughly recommend them, it took 3 hours to do, there was a courtesy car (a micra - strangely with a rather loud noise) and it cost me £375 inc fitting and VAT. Admittedly that's more than you'd pay for a standard steel exhaust but it is a quality item and the guarantee is much better than the 2 year one you'd get normally. The only downside is that they only have 4 sites at the moment, Bristol (HQ), Cardiff, Sheffield and South London (nr Croyden) Visit Website . But if you want a good exhaust it's well worth the trouble I think.

Many thanks to Steve Pereira for this article.
