Superchipping is a worthwhile upgrade. Midrange power especially is increased, and the throttle remapping smooths out the characteristic drivetrain snatch at low speeds. Acceleration is up marginally ( 0-60 in 7.8s rather than 8.3 for a standard car ). I would put top speed at around 140 mph; the car certainly has enough power to embarrass BMW 323s and Astra 2.0 coupes.
The chip was supplied and fitted by Colin Blower Garages of Hinckley, Leicestershire. Superchips have a list of dealers on their website, go to UK dealers to find yours. The cost at the time (1996) was £165 fitted. Now I believe this is closer to £230, a cheaper alternative would be the BBR Starchip at £165 for DIY fitting, although I can't comment on its performance.
